Bay Tour
Santa Cruz Island is considered the second biggest island in Galapagos. The island is full of natural charms and offers various tours. One of them is the Bay tour where you will be able to visit 5 tourist places: the Caamaño islet, el Canal de los Tiburones, el Canal del amor, la Playa de los Perros and las Grietas.
How to get there?
This tour starts in Santa Cruz Island, the naturalist guide or agency staff will pick you up at the hotel or they’ll let you know a meeting point.
Itinerary
This tour has two departure time at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm The tour starts at the Gus Angermeyer Pier, you take a boat to visit the Caamaño Islet or Lobería where you will find a colony of sea lions.
Then in the cliff of Punta Estrada you can observe birds such as frigate birds, terns, pelicans and blue-footed boobies. Immediately we get ready to visit the Canal del Amor and the Canal de los Tiburones, an ideal place to observe the white tip reef shark if there is good conditions.
Afterwards, we visit the beach of Los Perros, it has an extension of 75 meters. The name of this beach is due to the fact that the inhabitants of Puerto Ayora harvested a species of crab called “dog” on the rocks of this beach. On the path of the beach of the dogs you will find marine iguanas, sally light red foot crab and hermits. Then you will do your first snorkeling with colorful fish and sea turtles.
Continuing with the tour you will take a walk to visit Las Grietas which are two fissures of lava that form two giant walls where the sea water mixes with fresh water coming from the highlands. Here you will do the second snorkeling in this beautiful place.
